Golden Retriever Needs His Daily Paddleboard Ride, Even if All He Does Is Lie Back & Float

Three o’clock means something very specific in Chili’s house: the paddleboard needs to be in the water. There is no alarm, no reminder, and evidently no room for negotiation, because the Golden Retriever knows exactly when it is time to head down to the lake. A video from @goldenchilidog shows Chili waiting on the pier as his mom explains their daily routine. Once the paddleboard hits the water, he simply climbs aboard, stretches out, and floats.

Chili’s mom starts the video by showing the time on her phone. It is exactly 3 p.m., and Chili is already standing beside her. “Every day at exactly three o’clock, my dog comes to stand next to me like this,” she explains. Then Chili puts a paw on her thigh. “Now,” the text on screen says. His mom knows what he wants. Every afternoon, the cute dog expects his daily paddleboard ride.

They head down the pier, and once the board hits the water, Chili climbs straight on. But anyone expecting a big adventure might be a little disappointed. He lies down and goes right back to relaxing. “If you’re wondering what he wants to do, it’s just this,” Mom says.

Stevie eventually joins him, although she seems far more interested in what is happening around her. Her tail dips into the water, earning the excellent name “floaty tail,” before she gets up, walks over to Chili, and jumps off to swim.

Chili, meanwhile, barks at another approaching paddleboarder, taking his lakeside responsibilities seriously. Stevie has already made it back to the pier and is busy play-bowing at mom. This routine has become a summer tradition. His mom says it took quite a process to figure out the setup, but now they go out every day except when it rains.

The older Golden Retriever floats on a paddleboard while Stevie comes and goes, which has given viewers plenty to joke about. One person imagined Chili saying, “It is time, mother,” while another wondered how long it took him to train Mom.

And the final scene belongs to Stevie. She spots a duck, takes off down the pier, and launches herself toward it, leaving Mom with a very understandable, “What the heck?” Chili? Still floating.
